Tuesday’s high school roundup: Guilderland baseball tops Shenendehowa

Guilderland got the jump on defending state champion Shenendehowa with four runs in the bottom of the first inning and went on to win 5-1 in Suburban Council baseball on Tuesday.

Nick Grabek hit two singles and scored two runs for the Dutchmen (1-0), Max Gebauer had a double, one RBI and scored a run and Cameron Myers had a double, single and one RBI, and scored a run.

Kury Forshell and Joe Novenche each hit two singles for the Plainsmen (0-1).

Hunter Harris went the distance on the mound for Guilderland, striking out six.

LaSalle scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull out a 6-4 Colonial Council win over Ravena-
Coeymans-Selkirk.

Winning pitcher James Rubino struck out 12 for the Cadets (3-0, 3-1), Cory Listing had three singles and two RBIs and Carson Stewart had two singles and two RBIs.

Tyrell Irvis had a triple and three RBIs for the Indians (1-2), and Jack Kerrigan had a single and a double.

Joe Kosowsky hit two home runs, scored three times and drove in four runs as Lansingburgh hammered Schalmont 18-5.

Devan Miller had two singles, three runs and two RBIs for the Knights, and Nate Lyman had two singles and three RBIs.

Alec Burchhardt hit a home run for the Sabres, and Justin Dusse was 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.

Duanesburg banged out 18 hits andefeated Caito-Durham to improve to 5-0.

Boone Lynch was 5-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs for the Eagles, freshman Andrew Drescher had two singles, a triple and two RBIs and freshman Ricky Rollins earned his first varsity win on the mound.

Drescher has 12 hits in his last three games.

Derek Willson hit three doubles and scored five runs, and Carren Dunkel hit three doubles with four runs scored and seven RBIs as Schuylerville pounded Johnstown 20-8 in the Foothills Council.

Charlie Brown had two doubles and two RBIs for Johns­town, and Ben Wager had a double and a single.

Saratoga Catholic fell behind Greenwich 4-0 in the first inning, but buckled down from there and won 10-4 in the Wasaren League.
Jake Hart was 2-for-2 for the Saints (5-0, 6-1) with a triple, single, two RBIs and three runs, Zac Cronk also was 2-for-2, with two RBIs, and Cadhan McFadden scored three runs.

John Walsh hit a double and a single for Greenwich (0-3, 0-3), and Bailey Winch hit two singles.

In a non-league game, Bethlehem took a 6-0 lead over Watervliet after three innings on the way to a 7-0 victory.

In a Suburban Council game played on Monday, Luke Gold had two hits and two RBIs, and Aaron Hinman had a double and two RBIs as Ballston Spa defeated Albany 11-5. Matt Wilson had two hits and two RBIs for the Falcons.

Also on Monday, Glens Falls downed Broadalbin-Perth 7-4 in the Foothills Council.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

Giovanni Kelso scored eight goals to tie a school single-game record as Schenectady defeated Averill Park 10-8  in the Suburban Council.

Liam Gelder scored three goals for the Warriors.

Darien LaPietro scored his fourth goal of the game unassisted with 2:35 left in overtime to give Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake an 8-7 win over Christian Brothers Academy.

Ty McHerron scored three goals for the Spartans (1-1, 1-2), and Nolan Aery scored three goals for CBA (1-2, 2-2), which forced overtime by outscoring Burnt Hills 5-1 in the fourth quarter.

Adam Mesquita had three goals and two assists as Saratoga Springs defeated Colonie 13-8.

Vincent Ieraco led the Garnet Raiders with three goals.

Goalie Anthony Tebano made 13 saves and shut out Guilderland in the second half as Shenendehowa defeated Guilderland 7-3.

Pat Nagy and Tommy Sullivan each scored two goals for the Plainsmen, and Eric Maknataclec had a goal and two assists.

Shaker built a 10-1 lead at halftime and went on to beat Bethlehem 14-7.

Luke Jullian had five goals and an assist for the Blue Bison, and Jack Cheney had three goals and one assist.
Ben Reilly led the Eagles with four goals and an assist.

Cole Carpenter and Kellen Gannon each made six saves to combine for a 15-0 shutout by Queensbury over Schuylerville in the Foothills Council.

James Conway scored five goals for the Spartans.

Amsterdam outscored Voorheesville 9-3 in the second half to score a 12-7 non-league victory.

Saratoga Springs took a 14-0 halftime lead and went on to beat Colonie 18-3 in the Suburban Council.

Averill Park outscored Schenectady 10-0 in the second half to close out a 14-1 victory.

SOFTBALL

Niskayuna scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to break open a close game and defeat Columbia 9-2 in the Suburban Council.

Guilderland led 1-0 after the first inning, but Shenendehowa came back to take a 4-1 lead through four innings and defeated the Lady Dutch 4-2.

Sophia Caputo started a three-run third inning for Shenendehowa with an RBI single.

Emily Albanese pitched six innings and gave up up two runs and three hits, striking out six.

Cathy Genthner scored from third in the bottom of the sixth inning when the throw home bounced off the catcher’s helmet, and that was all Lansingburgh needed in a 1-0 Colonial Council victory over Schalmont.

Genthner was hit by a pitch, was sacrificed to second and moved to third on a fielder’s choice before scoring the only run of the game.

Jessica Thompson struck out nine in seven innings for the Knights (2-0).

Schalmont fell to 1-1 in the Colonial and 2-2 overall.

Kayla Loomis and Angel Brown each hit a double as Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk defeated Holy Names 13-5. Aliya McIntyre hit two home runs for Holy Names.

Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons had 21 hits and defeated Berne-Knox-Westerlo 17-4 in the Western Athletic Conference.

Sarah Malinowski and Ryenne Relyea each had three hits and three RBIs for the Golden Knights, and winning pitcher Hope Hiscock had two doubles and a single.

Laura Simpson hit a double for the Bulldogs.

Schoharie defeated OESJ 14-7 as Caroline Wetsel had a double and two singles and Bryn MacDonald had a double and a single for Schoharie.

Caitlin Handy hit two doubles and a single for OESJ, and Jazmin Mumford had two singles.

Gabby Wiss hit a grand slam and a double as Greenwich overpowered Saratoga Catholic 15-1 in the Wasaren League.

Rachel Hall hit a home run, double and a single for six RBIs for the Witches (3-0, 3-0).

The Saints fell to 2-2 in the Wasaren and 3-2 overall.

Samantha Marrish had three hits and four RBIs as Germantown rolled past Doane Stuart 22-2 in the Central Hudson Valley League.

Ichabod Crane defeated Watervliet 20-0 in a game that was called in the second inning due to injury forfeit.
