On Wednesday, Senator Jim Tedisco (R,C,I, REF-Glenville) and Senator Kathleen A. Marchione (R,C,I, REF-Halfmoon) honored the 2017 New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championship and the Federation Championship Shenendehowa High School Girls 3,200-meter relay team, and Shenendehowa senior Jillian Shippee, who captured the 2017 New Balance Nationals Indoor Championship in the Weight Throw and present the team with copies of resolutions they sponsored that unanimously passed the New York State Senate.
The 3,200 relay team captured the state championship with a time of 9:00 minutes flat, setting a state meet record, a Section II record and a Shenendehowa record. After clinching the state title, Shen advanced to the New Balance Nationals Indoor Track and Field Meet where it placed third in 9:08.85, giving them All-American status. Shippee holds the all-time NYS weight throw record with a distance of 65 feet, 6 inches, and the NYS shot put record of 43 feet, 10.5 inches. A three-time All American, Shippee ranks second all-time in the United States for high school weight throw.
